One possibility is to restrict optional arguments to one line: \def\beginInvoice{\bgroup\obeylines\dosingleempty\dobeginInvoice} \def\dobeginInvoice[#1]{\egroup\grabbufferdata[myLetter][beginInvoice][endInvoice]} Aditya
