Hi Hans,
as it comes close to Christmas I'd like to tell you my biggest wish:
"placefigure[top,left], placefigure[bottom,right]" (see below)
Isn't there something that you could cook up for this special occasion?

this is kind of impossible in tex since it works per paragraph and during that it has no concept of crossing a page boundary; i presume that i can cook up something for a controlled situation but it's far from trivial
