Please open a bug for pdftex at sarovar and be sure to include all
relevant files, please.
mh, just made a 'minimal' example and it looks like this bug is not 
related to png transparency. this wasn't visible in my real world 
example (only transparent areas of the png were affected).
looks more like a mess of layer priorities to me (just guessing).
made some more tests. it's related to png transparency. without any 
transparency there are no problems.

context example attached (inclusion.tex is the main file, testpdf.tex is 
the source for the included pdf).
so before i file a bug report, can someone confirm this? i used pdftex 
1.40.9-rc1 for this test.
