well, you can always define a 'purified' interface (script an extra entry in mult-co[nm] with defaults taken fron english)
Perhaps it is possible to come up with aliases for "left" and "right" alignments as well? something like
align=flushleft % maps to 'old' right align=flushright % maps to 'old' left
