Thanks Hans, for your quick reply. I downloaded the most recent files (again) from Lagally's website, since I don't have the texlive cd (may be I should). The most recent apatch.sty bear dates in 2006. I commented line 191 in apatch.sty. Everything seems to work normal now. Perhaps until I decide to write any hebrew texts, which is unlikely.
