Since about last week's beta I get an "Illegal unit of measure" error (pointing to a completely different place) with this line: \definedfont[SansBold at 1.5\fontsize] I just want to adapt the local font size relative to the current setting. Hello everybody. Can you please confirm that following code fails: \usemodule[simpleslides] \starttext \IncludePicture[horizontal][cow][highlight=yes, alternative=circle, x=1, y=1, xscale=1, yscale=1, shadow=bottomleft]{hello} \stoptext And this does not: \usemodule[simpleslides] \starttext \IncludePicture[horizontal][cow][highlight=no, alternative=circle, x=1, y=1, xscale=1, yscale=1, shadow=bottomleft]{hello} \stoptext It seems like something goes wrong when circle is made. Position of MetaPost graphics

Dear list, I'm trying to make some fancy chapter headers. With MetaPost I drew a wave, which I'd like to place in the margin. I've read details.pdf and metafun.pdf, but I don't manage to get the positioning right. The wave should begin where the bottomframe ends and move on to the page border. wikimedia2context: any existing solutions?

Hello, Before I start reinvinting the wheel ... I have a feeling that some people were already doing some basic wikimedia2context syntax conversion. I would like to create PDF out of some wiki pages with very limited number of used commands. I have created a simple ruby script that fetches all the contents that I want in the final PDF, all that is left to be done is conversion from wiki to tex syntax: - replace =...= with \section{...}, ==...== with \subsection{...}, ===...=== with \subsubsection{...}, ... - replace ''...'' with {\bf ...}, '''...''' with {\it ...}, '''''...''''' with {\bi ...} - all lines starting with a space should be printed verbatim - lines starting with * should be bulleted itemize - lines starting with # should be numbered itemize - some trivial replacements like > - some links: [[abc def]] should become symlinks to begining of sections with that title - [[Image:chap1-f2.jpg|frame|Figure 1.2: Cylindrical scanner]] should become \placefigure{Cylindrical scanner}{\externalfigure[chap1-f2.jpg]} - a few tables Maybe there is more, but I think that this covers the majority of contents. The solution doesn't have to be too robust and I don't care what language it is written in (I just need a printed manual and I have no problem manually tweaking the pitfals after the conversion if needed). I can start writing regular expressions, but in case that somebody has an almost-ready-to-use solution, that would be much better than doing everything from scratch. (A Lua function that would simply read in a plain wiki file would be nice, but I have never tried to gain deep understanding of "parsing" in lua.) Thanks a lot, Mojca

something's wrong with arranging

Need help with \setuphead and spacing

Hi, I still have a couple of requests from a publisher, which I do not know how to fulfill: 1) I need to shift the title 12pt below the top margin. This is my command now: \definefont[TitleStyle][SerifBold at 14pt] \setuphead[title][ style=TitleStyle, align=middle, textstyle=WORD, before={\blank[12pt]}, after={\blank[3pt]} ] But 'before' does not seem to have any effect. My document starts with \starttext\title{...}. 2) I need (sub)section titles indented by .75cm, regardless of the section number, so that in: 1 First Section 1.1 First Subsection 100 Another Section Title 100.1 Another subsection the section titles are aligned. I have tried to use the 'distance' option, but that seems to set the distance between the section number and the section title. I am stuck with these, so any help would greatly be appreciated. I am using MKIV 2011.02.25 22:03 to compile. Nicola

Hello, this is nice: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Headers_and_Footers#Marginal_headings_and_cent ered_headings However, the text in the margin has not the same interlinespace as the main text and that looks weird. See http://i52.tinypic.com/91rc.png The only solution I came up with is using \framed: \startsetups[text a] \framed[align=flushleft, height=24\lineheight, width=\rightmarginwidth, frame=off ] {\getmarking[section]} \stopsetups The drawback seems to be that with this, I can not use \raised , so I have to enlarge the frame (It says "A box is expected here" when I try to raise the frame). Is there a better solution? P.S: Bonus points: Align baselines of margin text and main text.

rscale (only for integers?)

Hi, in a typescript I need to set sansserif font proportional bigger than serif font. Using "rscale"? As far as I have seen this only works when integers are used for bodyfont: \starttypescript [times] \definetypeface [times] [ss] [sans] [helvetica] [default] [rscale=10.2] \stoptypescript \usetypescript[times] %\setupbodyfont[times,10pt] % <- try this ... \setupbodyfont[times,10.1pt] % <- ... and then this \starttext Test \ss{text} \stoptext Unfortunately the sizes for bodyfont and footnotes are specified by publisher (10.1pt and 8.5pt). Is there a chance to get rscale working even for theses decimal fractions? Steffen

Hi, I'm new to ConTeXt and I'm greatly appreciating the rejuvenation it brings me in typesetting after several years using LaTeX. I'm confronted to a few little problems though, the main one being that I'd need to have references both in the footnotes and at the end of a document. Under LaTeX I found that the "inlibib" package is doing exactly that, inserting some "ibid" and "op.cit." when required for repeting references. After reading the bibmod-doc, I thought I would temporarly solve the problem by simply using \setuppublications[refcommand=data] which I thought would put the reference in the same format as in the bibliography, but it doesn't compile. Does any one have a solution? Piotr

Gradient in table header

Hello! Cyrillic characters get transliterated after being processed by "texexec". Page break between \title and \itemize

Hello, I used the following setup for title: \setuphead[title][style=\bfb,align=middle,after=\blank] Then, in the middle of the source code, I used: \title{A title} % Unwanted page break here! \startitemize \item ... \item ... \item ... \stopitemize But it happened that the title was placed to the bottom of a page and the item list appeared on the new page. When I removed "after=\blank" from the setup, the title and the item list got back to one page. So - the question: - Is there a parameter for \blank which would prohibit page break at the place of use? To affect the space after a head but to keep binding with the next element? BTW: There is an option "\blank[samepage]" but with a note "mkiv only?". So how - if - is this supposed to work with MKIV? Kind regards, Lukas -- Ing. How to sort the reference by the cite sequence

I want to list the cited reference in the publication list, and numbered by the citing sequence. so I use \setuppublications[alternative=num,criterium=cite,sorttype=cite] But it seems the sequence is the one in the bbl file. So i add one line to generate a bbl file by the citing sequence. \setupbibtex[database={blabla},sort=cite] This time, there is even no bbl file generated. How do i get my publication list to what I want: numbered by the citing sequence in the text?

Trouble with columns

I was setting up a test for my students, consisting of one page (A4 landscape), three columns. Each column consisted of a question, below which there was an empty frame in which to write the answer. The layout then was something like -- \startcolumns[n=3] \startitemize[n] \item First question \framed[height=10cm width=\textwidth]{} \column \item Second question \framed[height=10cm width=\textwidth]{} \column \item Third question \framed[height=10cm width=\textwidth]{} \stopitemize \stopcolumns -- All well and good - except! the second "\column" command pushed the third column onto a second page. However without that "\column", no matter what parameters I gave the page layout, the third question text would appear at the bottom of the second column. I ended up getting around this by putting a "\vskip3cm" in place of the second "\column". This worked, but seems like an ugly workaround. What's going on here - and what am I doing wrong? \definepalet ignores transparency (mkiv)

The question left is if this is a bug or a feature :-) Example: \starttext \definecolor[foo] [s=0,a=1,t=.5] \definepalet[bar] [foobar=foo] \blackrule[width=3cm,height=3cm,color=foo] % transparent black \blackrule[width=3cm,height=3cm,color=foobar] % pure black \stoptext Tested with ConTeXt beta from 26.01.2011. LinearShade trouble

Dear ConTeXt list, I have been having troubles with LinearShade with ConTeXt for quite a while, even with the latest version. Steps to reproduce: There is a test.tex at the bottom of this e-mail: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=580447#5 Copy paste it into the ConTeXt Live interface at the ConTeXt Garden. Result is blank. But what I expect (produced with an ancient version of ConTeXt, Debian version 2008.05.21-1): http://people.debian.org/~akumar/dump/test_expected.pdf Could you please let me know where things are going wrong? Lucida font?

From the book "Fonts in ConTeXt" I got the impression that the Lucida font is working and decided to give it a try. I have the afm and type1 files in my texmf-local/fonts directory. However, this simple program: \setupbodyfont[lucida] \starttext Hello world! \stoptext takes forever. On my MacPro (mid 2010) luatex is utilizing a processor thread for 100%. I guess processing the fonts take some time. But after more than 12 minutes cpu time without any sign of process I do not believe all is well. The log file is tacked to this post. Is there someone who knows what is happening and where the culprit could be hiding? Thanks in advance. Hans van der Meer

Reference jump location

I have the feeling that this issue is well known, but I cannot find a solution at the moment. When clicking on a reference the jump goes underneath the heading making it invisible. How to make the jump to a position that the heading stays visible? Include path

I defined some things I will use often. At the moment I do something like: \input /home/cecil/Documenten/context/include/standard-init.inc But I would prefer to do something like: \input standard-init.inc Is shorter and when the path changes there is nothing to update. How should I implement this? Also is it possible to \input a file relative to the current document? For example in my standard-init.inc I have: \ctxloadluafile{/home/cecil/Documenten/context/include/lua/getdate} but I would prefer something like: \ctxloadluafile{lua/getdate} -- Cecil Westerhof

Hi, I uploaded a new beta. Hi, One of the changes in mkiv font handling is that from now on we have mode=auto as default (beware, this is one of those mkiv only options and not supported in the generic variant). I don't know how well it works in practice but it does work out ok for cases like: \starttext \startTEXpage \definedfont[Serif*default at 20pt]fijn\par \definefontfeature[nlddefault][default][script=latn,language=nld] \definedfont[Serif*nlddefault at 20pt]fijn\par \stopTEXpage \stoptext Depending on the font, node mode takes more memory (and a bit more runtime) but you can always enforce base or node mode when you are unhappy with the automatically determined mode. Help with Times font, footnote symbols and captions

Hi, a document of mine (compiled with the latest mkiv beta) contains the following setup: \usetypescript[times][ec] \setupbodyfont[times,10pt] \defineconversion[onlyasterisks][*,*,*,*,*] \setupnote[footnote][numberconversion=onlyasterisks,bodyfont=9pt] \setupcaptions[inbetween={\blank[6pt]},width=max,align=middle,style=bold, suffix={.}] I have some trouble with the following, however: 1) The asterisks in the footnotes appear in the margin. I can I align the * below the main text? 2) How can I make the text in the captions at 9pt? I have checked in the wiki and in the ConTeXt manual, but I cannot do the above. Besides, is the used font Times New Roman (sorry for the question, but I do not have Acrobat installed right now, and I do not know how to check the font in the pdf file)? If not, how can I use Times New Roman with mkiv? Thanks in advance, Nicola

x-ldx markup tags?

Hi all, the xml style docstrings for lua files are really useful but I still have no clue about what are valid tags. For instance ----------------------------------------------------------------- --[[ldx-- <p>Drop by at <url href="http://pragma-ade.com/"/>!</p> --ldx]]-- ----------------------------------------------------------------- is the syntax used to denote external links in many of context’s files (like mtxrun). But when passed to “context --ctx=x-ldx” the empty “<url/>” tag is just ignored. “<t>” or “<type>” are clear, as are “<l>” and “<logo>” -- but the other markup elemens -- assuming they do exist -- like a simple emphasis still elude me. (Just blindly grepping everything lua in the tree for some time now.) Any clarification or pointer to examples? Wrong cross references

I have seen this discussed once somewhere else, but I can't find it. Here's the problem: two equations in my document have been given numbers (1) and (2), but the references to them come up as (2) and (3) respectively. I have used: \definereferenceformat [ineqn] [left=(,right=),text=equation] to obtain their references. What is going on here? And is there an easier way to obtain parentheses around a reference number, so that "we see from equation (6)" instead of "we see from equation 6"?
