Hi, Normally around the meeting we bump a luametatex version. Before I do that I uploaded a new version, just to be sure. There are no substantial additions / changes apart from some checking for stale (or unintended) global assignments. If you run a document and get some 'global' related warning at the end, let me know (there is no need to report tikz related warnings). This kind of checking is also part of a bit more protection against user injected (lua) code. number formatting: setup of \units, \digits etc.

Wouldn’t it make sense to unify the setup of number formatting? \setupunits is good, but it doesn’t affect \digits or \spaceddigits. \setdigitmode and \setdigitorder affect \digits, but not \spaceddigits. Similar problem: The spreadsheet module has the keys "period" and "comma" to change number formatting, but it simply replaces all periods with commas, also in text. (Probably nobody uses that module, so it probably doesn’t make sense to invest time, but since I tried to use it, I wanted to mention that issue.) Hraban

Hi, how can I check (in Lua or ConTeXt) if a symbol or color is defined? \doifdefined is just for macros, isn’t it? And how can I check if the current font has a glyph? Hraban

ligatures and inputtranslation

Hi, I have a document that uses the doves type font in its two variants, one for titles, and one for text. I would like to replace several character combinations with ligatures. The same letter combinations have their own Unicode ligatures in each font variant. With \replaceword I could replace characters with characters, but I could not replace characters with a \utfchar. In this MWE I tried to enable-disableinputtranslation in \setuphead but to no effect. What I would like to do is to define two sets of replacements, i.e. translations, one for each font variant, and apply them to titles and running text respectively. mtxrun --script epub and modes

Hi, TL;DR: Is there a way to pass a `mode` argument when running `mtxrun --script epub --images`? Thanks a lot Hans and Mikael for yesterday's update! Your efforts to make ConTeXt-generated documents more accessible are really appreciated! (And may make my question moot :D Although I imagine there will still be use-cases for html/epub export.) I have a document where different versions should have a different number of images. Following an earlier suggestion from Wolfgang, I usually handle differences between versions of the same document using modes, which works very well for pdf outputs. However, I could not figure out how to generate the correct images for html export. For example, if I have the following: test.tex ________________ \setupbackend[export=yes] \starttext A well-known equation: \startmode[show_formula] \startformula e = \frac{m c^2}{\sqrt{1 - v^2 / c^2}} \stopformula \stopmode \stoptext ___________________ and run mtxrun --script epub --images test.tex context test.tex --mode=show-formula the pdf output is correct but the html output lacks the formula. (The output is correct if I delete `\startmode[show_formula]` and `\stopmode`.) Is there a way to activate the `show_formula` mode when running `mtxrun --script epub --images`? Cheers, Florent

\chemical together with \frac

Hi folks, I try to write \chemical{Na + H_2O → NaOH + 1/2 H_2} and it works. But I do not like 1/2 that way. But if I want to use \chemical{Na + H_2O → NaOH + \frac{1}{2} H_2} %\frac or variants of it it doesn't work. \chemical{Na + H_2O → NaOh +}\frac{1}{2}\chemical{H_2} doesn't work too. \startformula \chemical{Na + H_2O → NaOH +}\xxfrac{1}{2}\chemical{H_2} % and some other variants of \frac \stopformula does work, but the distance between + and the \frac-expression is to large. Hi, Due to some pressure on this list we have been looking into reasonable mapping from context structure onto what pdf sees as structure as of 2025. This is not without risk as the pdf standard, tools, interpretations, whatever are in constant flux. We don't fall into the target audience so our decisions are guess work at best. That said, we now do the following. If you enable tagging \setuptagging[state=start] you get normal tagging, without so called rolemapping. This can work out ok with (future) more clever parsers of the content stream (think llm). It doesn't pollute the pdf too much but of course bloats it. Then, if you want to go fuzzy, you can say \setupbackend [format=pdf/ua-2] \setuptagging [state=start] This gives some basic mapping. Then there is a basic mapping that or with Mikael figured out and tested on lecture notes and a math book. Of course runtime increases (so the book now needs 14 sec instead of 8 but so be it we might be able to improve that a little bit but all that math ... it's not like one tags all day). \setuptagging [state=start, preset=basic, % preset={basic,\jobname}, comment={just a basic test document}] You can kick in your own mappings, e.g. which could already be done with commands but we now prefer using an "imp" file as hard pdf mapping doesn't belong in a document setup. You, as user / author knows best what mapping is nneeded and can work. There is tagging-basic.tex document that explains this. We advise to delay tagging (if needed at all, which in my case is never) to when a document is finished (maybe by wrapping in a mode tagging) so that no runtime is wasted during writing / designing. You can test / check some with mtxrun --script pdf --structure [--detail --save] yourdocument mtxrun --script pdf --validate [--interaction] yourdocument where the second one calls for verapdf, or simply test with mtxrun --script pdf --check yourdocument this is only for testing purposes; we might add some to it depending on our own or user demand. The possibly generated file serves no other purpose (and obeys crap-in-crap-out). Of course, different versions of verapdf can result in different results By default we ignore interaction because that is a mess in tagged pdf but you can use option=interaction to get something if needed. We think that when a document validates with exception of link/references no one is harmed.
