I can "reproduce" the opposite, a extra new lines: checkout from trunk: beta-0.67.0-2011042407 (rev 4192) System: i386-linux

Hartmut is working on the backend in truynk, for 0.71 and up. If you need a more stable version from the repository, use branches/0.70.x Best wishes, Taco

Indeed, that's also what I observed last week. But afaik Hartmut is now cleaning up all those bits and pieces (some are inheritances of pdftex) so it should be more consistent in the upcoming versions.
