[Dev-luatex] Appearance of cairo?

Hi Taco et al I just updated to r4488 and of course noticed the appearance of the cairo/pixman libraries. Just out of curiosity, I'm interested to know if this is pointing to new features/functionality and the general roadmap for using these libaries. Are these going to be used in MPlib only?
