when you write in Arabic you fill a box (from the R to the L) and then place the left border of that box on the current point. Having a result equivalent to the use of \llap makes no sense.

That's what I expected. Fixing this bug will move to the rainy-weekend-with-nothing-to-do pile, because I only half understand what goes on in dvi mode. Cheers, Taco
