New Debian packages
Hi all!
I have uploaded new Debian packages for context/context-nonfree to
tug.org and Debian.
These packages provide a workaround for using new context with texlive
in Debian, ie pdftex < 1.40 by creating a symlink
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex -> /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdfetex
If
- you already had such a symlink
- or you had a directory (but not a link)
then upgrade will be smooth and you will not see anything, the directory
or symlink will be removed and a link created to pdfetex.
But if you have a symlink to some other place than pdfetex then upgrade
will break, please remove it first!
As soon as texlive 2006/7 with pdftex 1.40 enters Debian we can get rid
of this hack.
Best wishes
Norbert

Hi also, There is a new context (2007.01.12), not sure if that is the one Norbert is already using. I am not well enough yet to give a complete set of differences between this one and previous, but: * pdftex 1.40 *only*, not a single trace of "pdfetex" is left * texexec now gives a correct return value (not sure about texsync) * map files for tex-gyre are added * some improvementents in XeTeX unicode support * better map file for Adobe Euro This, I just committed to TexLive. Best, Taco Norbert Preining wrote:

Yes, this one is what I have uploaded ...
* pdftex 1.40 *only*, not a single trace of "pdfetex" is left
in Debian packages yes, but I didn't patch context but made a link in the formats dir
* texexec now gives a correct return value (not sure about texsync)
thanks a lot
This, I just committed to TexLive.
Thanks double lot ;-)

2) FWIW, I've been using the context-2007.01.02-2 without that link. I wonder is it necessary? Sorry, I forgot the rsync. Now the stuff is there. If you have the lines in sources.list the next update will bring it.

No, it is NOT necessary for 2007.01.02 as those still use pdfetex as the
place where texexec puts the formats. This change was introduced between
02 and 10.
