Hi, it seems that the minimals have lost their ability to automatically generate the luatex filename database… now mtxrun --generate is needed (again) before anything else works. Formats are still generated automatically though. I'm afraid I can't pin down when that change happened but it's present at least in 2011.02.11 18:18 2011.02.05 11:37 Would it be much work to (re)enable this? I'm aware that all things configuration files have undergone a massive overhaul recently but this feature would really be nice to have again :-) Best, Oliver

Do you talk about the lost ability when running first-setup.sh or something else? How do you update? (mtxrun --generate was never automatic from what I remember; well, it was in mtx-update, but it was updating the wrong tree) I had some problems with updates after changes in texmfcnf.lua, but after I deleted the cache, everything worked again. (But my problem was slightly different than yours. It happened when renaming the root.) Mojca

Pardon me, I should have been more specific… it's not the update mechanism of the minimals itself, rather the behaviour of the (minimals) distribution. In detail: 1. The distribution is obtained (in the standard way?) by first rsyncing minimals/setup/osx-64/bin and then running mtx-update.lua from there. After cleaning up the local bin directory and status-of-update.lua this leaves me with a bare minimals distribution for the beta branch and osx-64 platform. 2. The configuration files are adapted in such a way that TEXMFCACHE points to a single directory which does not exist yet. 3. The problem occurs once the command "context" is first invoked. Previous versions generated the luatex filename database on demand, built the format if missing and then proceeded with normal compilation. Now a kick-start with "mtxrun --generate" is needed before "context" can automatically build the format and start typesetting. Oliver
