Hi
You have to set the graphics path to something to get search functionality, I believe.
still no luck: \setupexternalfigures[directory={/opt/local/texmf/tex/context/sample}] in cont-sys.tex and cow.pdf is definately at /opt/local/texmf/tex/context/sample/cow.pdf but still "figures : figure cow can not be found" Patrick -- ConTeXt wiki and more: http://contextgarden.net
