I was in the Bavarian "TeX Stammtisch" on Saturday and one of the exTeX developers was with us (Michael Niedermair, m.g.n AT gmx.de) and presented the project shortly. Perhaps some of you already saw it at EUROTeX.
i know that it exists; there was a talk at a dante meeting and when i asked about status and mailing lists, i was told that it was in german only; actually, soem time before that i was told by someone that it was not yet time for me to join those mailing list -) As with the omega and etex project ... it's latex that dominates the tex world and i'm a bit tired of having to defend what i need for context; in the end my opinion does not count that much; (in pdftex development i have some say -) btw, at that time, i didn't like the project members attitude toward the nts developer who did a first reimplementation of tex within stronger constraints (100% tex log/dvi compatibility) than the extex people posed upon themselves; i don't like people who in public start talking about other peoples work being crap so ... keep an eye on it
The second presentation was about the extentions to palatino fonts: http://home.vr-web.de/was/x/FPL/ (some letters redesignes, but mostly missing characters added, so that no virtual font is needed any more, some kerning data added, ...) They would be glad to get any feedback.
interesting; i've read about it on the tex-fonts list ... adam ?
